Terracotta Warriors and Horses

Emperor Qin's Mausoleum

Behind the Qin's army 1.5 kilometers away, there is a huge mount standing around 87 meters high. You could see it afar   on the road of terra cotta museum. Emperor Qin Shihuang was very brutal even after his coming into anther world. Those people who had attended the project or who knew the inner secret would be buried with emperor. It is presumed that about 300,000 people were deceased during the 38-year project which began from 247 .BC to 210 .BC. The concubines, who had once no children for Emperor Qin were buried also with him in the order of the emperor's son Huhai who success the throne later.

It is said that there is a mysterious underworld palace furnished with lots of gold, silver, pearl and jade on top of which the mausoleum stands. Above the ceiling, a picturesque constellation symbolizing the cosmos is composed of gold, silver and pearl, while the river was symbolized by mercury. The whale-oil candles were burned inside the tomb for everlasting brightness.

Why the mausoleum was buried here?  According to the Chinese ancient geographic theories "Feng Shui", if the spot lies behind a huge ever-green mountain with a stream flowing by before, here would become a dry and fine area without moisture .Thus would be regarded as an auspicious place for the deceased buried. So their heirs would get a good fortune in many terms of generations. Besides that, there is a rich mine of gold and jade on Mountain Li and it had been considered as the tomb burying area of Qin's royal family for over hundreds of years. By these reasons, Emperor Qin so made a final choice here as his resting palace in wish of immortality.

This gigantic mausoleum has still not been opened yet and there is still no further excavation plan by the national government for the poor preservation technique nowadays. Maybe in the next future years, the tourists could enjoy the breath-taking splendid gems of Qin's emperor inside or around the mausoleum.
