
Zhou koudian, Peking Man Site 50 kilometers aways from Beijing
In 1929, a Peking Man skull was discovered by a Chinese archeologist Fei Wenzhong; such astonishing discovery arose a great interest in archeology circle. After archeological research, Peking Man was estimated to live in Zhou koudian, Beijing from 700,000 to 200,000 years ago. It fills in the blanks of human origin research of Asia.

The Peking Man Cave
Peking Man is a kind of Homo Erectus in North Asia whose height varies from 1.56 to 1.50 m. In the earlier period of Paleolithic Age, Peking Man began to know the fire-making and tool-making method; they lived in a vast forest area or a plaintive prairie and desert area. There was about 6 meters thick silt reminded in a cave which emphasizes a long-term fire using period.

Comparing with humanbeing at present, the brain volume of Peking Man is 1,088 mm a bit less than ours 1,400 mm. But in that dangerous and cool environment, only 5% of each group can survive up to more than 50 years old and about 68% of them died before 14 years old.

Zhou koudian is an archeological site 50 kilometers away from Bejing. From 1921, a Swedish archeologist Anderson firstly discovered a Peking Man cave. Soon after that, several other caves were found subsequently by Chinese archeologists.

Five Peking Man Skulls
A Peking Man skull was luckily found in 1929 and was then preserved in Xiehe Hospital of Bejing which was charged by Americans. In 1940', Japanese announced the war towards American. In order to protect the precious skull, American government planned to transport it out of China by sea. But it was finally lost when the American ship carrying Peking Man skull was captured by Japanese soldiers.
Where is the Peking Man skull now? Nobody knows it even after 60 years' research. So the location of Peking Man skull still remains a mystery to us.
