Xian is the provincial capital city of Shaanxi Province, in the middle of north China. It is on the southern part of Guanzhong Plain with Qinling Mountain to the north and Weihe River to the south.
Xian is the cradle of Chinese civilization. It was the capital city of 13 dynasties, spanning over 1,120 years. In ancient times, it was called Chang'an. It was here that the first emperor of Qin Dynasty achieved his ambition of uniting the whole country. It was the starting point of the famous Silk Road which traversed the Middle East and ended at the Mediterranean. Nowadays, Xian is a modern city with prosperous industrial, manufacturing technology and education.
Mausoleum of Qin Shi Huang is the tomb of the first emperor of Qin Dynasty; Museum of Qin Terracotta Warriors and Horses is where there are vivid life-size warrior figures, clad in armor or short gowns belted at the waist, with puttees and tightly-lashed boots. Their weapons consist of bows and arrows, swords and spears. Big Wild Goose Pagoda was built to store the Buddhist scriptures. These scriptures were secured by a renowned Buddhist monk XuanZang at Tang Dynasty; The City Wall is the only intact city wall in China and one of the largest ancient military defensive systems in the world; Bell Tower is the largest and best-preserved of its kind in China.The Great Mosque of Xi'an is the largest and best-preserved early mosques of China, armoniously combining Chinese architectural elements with that of mosque. Shaanxi Provincial History Museum is a Tang-Dynasty style pavilion which houses a large collection of 113,000 historic and cultural artifacts unearthed in Shaanxi.Forest of Stone Steles Museum preserves some precious stone steles moved here in 1087 AD when it was initially established, mainly exhibiting the works of calligraphy, painting and historical records on achievements in the development of Chinese culture and cultural exchanges between China and other countries.
Xian has vigorous night life. Tourists can enjoy the night scenery around the Bell Tower , take part in a Tang Dynasty Dinner Show , and watch the music fountain performance on Big Wild Goose Pagoda Square.
Xian is praised as "the capital of table delicacies" for delicious Shaanxi snack, delicate Guangdong Cuisine, various kinds of fashionable foreign delicacies, and popular Sichuan Cuisine. Among all the delicacies, the most famous and popular one is Muslim Snack food, on Muslim Street in the back of Drum Tower.


When you are on the way to Xianyang International Airport, you can stop at "Han Yang Ling" Mausoleum which has the largest human sacrifice graveyard ever found in China.
