Tianshui, the second largest city in Gansu Province is one of the sources of Chinese ancient culture. The name of the city means "water flowing down from the heaven." It is a vital post of Silk Road in ancient times.
The climate is gentle and suitable for the growth of grains, fruits and vegetables, so it is one of ten largest apple bases. With the forest coverage of 26.2%, it is one of the largest natural forests in northwest. It is one of the five largest electrical industry bases well-known all over the country.
The traffic facilities of Tianshui are well developed. There are Longhai (Lanzhou-Lianyungang) Railway and the No.310 State Highway from the east to the west and several main highways from the north to the south. Expressway connecting the eastern and western districts and the airport on the outskirts of the city are also available for large passenger planes.
Maiji Mountain Grottoes is the most famous historical scenic spot, which is reputed as "Oriental Sculpture Gallery" .
