Yuexiu Park
Yuexiu Park , named after Yuexiu Mountain , was built in 1952. It was the largest comprehensive park for culture admiration, including the stone sculpture of the Five Rams, Zhenhai Tower , the site of the Ming Dynasty City Wall, and Square Cannon . Five-Ram Sculpture is a symbolic structure in Guangzhou . A l egend tells that more than 2,000 years ago, five immortals in colorful garments came, riding on five rams which held sheaves of rice in their mouths. Blessed with the sheaves of rice the city became a rich place. The rams turned into stone.
In the past dynasties, three of "Goat City's Eight Scenes " add incomparable glamour to the park: " autumn moon ", " connected peaks ", " waves of the pines ".
The park is made up of three man-made lakes and seven hills of Yuexiu Mountain . Dongxiu Lake and Nanxiu Lake with graceful environment is a good place for painting; Beixiu Lake with the shade of trees is a fine place for fishing.
The grass and trees are verdant throughout the year in the garden. Large-scale winter jasmine fair, chrysanthemum fair and various kinds of flowers exhibitions are held every year.
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a memorial building in honor of Sun Yat-sen, the pioneer of China 's bourgeois democratic revolution. It is situated in the former site of Sun Yat-sen's Presidential Office on the southern slope of Yuexiu Mountain . It was built in 1931 with the funds raised by Guangzhou people and overseas Chinese.
The whole building is octagonal in typical Chinese architectural style with splendid exterior and elegant interior decorations. It occupies an area of 12,000 sq m with a height of 46 m. A five-meter- high bronze statue of Dr Sun stands in front of the hall. Above the entrance of the hall is a plaque with gold words "Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall" inscribed by Liao Chengzhi, the former vice chairman of the standing Committee of the National People's Congress. At the central up-layer wall of the small hall is another plaque with the words "The Whole World as a Community" inscribed by Sun Yat-sen himself
Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is not only a symbolic building of Guangzhou but also a key venue for the city's large-scale meetings and performances. Total:
