City Guide:
The city of Chengde is situated in northeastern part of Hebei Province and is 250 kilometers from Beijing, capital of China. Chengde covers an area of 4,442 square kilometers and is inhabited by a population of 3.53 million.
Chengde is a famous cultural city with about 300 years history. It is once the second political center in the Qing dynasty, with the largest extant royal garden in China. Chengde is commonly called as "Rehe", for the sake of having the ever flowing and unfrozen spring here.
Surrounded by mountains and with brooks and streams running through the city, Chengde commands beautiful scenery and a pleasant climate with no hot summers and frozen winters. Here the Chengde Mountain Resort of classic beauty and elegant taste, the grand "Eight Outer Temples" and the strange hills and meandering creeks combine to make Chengde a city of scenic and historical interest with a special and rational layout, as well as a tourist attraction famous both at home and abroad.
