City Guide:
Baotou is located in the west of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region.
It has a history of more than 6,000 years. At Qing dynasty, it is a place of business importance and a dock for land and water transport service on collecting and distributing furs. "Baotou" in Mongolian means "the place with deer ". According to the legend, a long time ago, the city had plenty of water and lush grass, the deer haunting and playing in groups. Therefore Baotou has the good reputation of Lucheng (the city of deer).
There are a lot of scenic spots near Baotou. Wudangzhao Monastery is a famous Buddhist temple, enjoying the equal fame with Potala Palace of Tibet and Taer Monastery of Qinghai. Funeral Park of Genghis Khan is in memory of well-known Inner Mongolian hero Genghis Khan.
