      Jilin City is the only one city, which has the same name as its province in China. Jilin is the second largest city in the province. Jilin covers an area of 2,710,000 square kilometers and is inhabited by a population of 4,300,000.

Jilin City is a pleasant small place with few of sights, but great cheap winter sports. In summer it's the best place for people to escape the hot and busy city. The city of Jilin is divided into two parts by the Songhua River, with the downtown area spread along its northern shore. A new promenade along the river was finished in 1998, making for a pretty walk, especially in winter, when the trees are coated in frost.

Jilin is famous for its ice festival in every winter, which attracts tourists from home and abroad. Jilin also has two first-class ski areas, replete with chairlifts, at Songhua Skiing Ground and Beida Skiing Ground.
