Dalian is in the southernmost point of Liaodong Peninsula with Yellow River to the east and Bohai Sea to the west. It covers an area of 12,578 square kilometers with a population of 5.4 million.
In Tang Dynasty, Dalian was called "Lion Mouth" for it is inaccessible. Dalian is one of the most important seaports and industrial, trading, and tourist cities in China . It has plentiful natural resources and is an important base of fruit and water product. The flourishing coastal city is also a famous "soccer city" and the "home of track and field."As a major industrial producer, Dalian is connected by pipeline to Daqing oil field. The port has many handicraft factories of glassware and shell mosaics.
Lushun is a National Key Scenic Spot and National Nature Protection Area. Jinshitan Scenic Area is a national scenic park with a lot of natural wonders.
