A-Ma Temple
A-Ma Temple, with a history of over 500 years, is the oldest temple among the three ancient temples in Macao. (The other two are Kun Iam Temple and Lin Fung Temple). The temple is situated at the base of Penha Hill. The temple is dedicated to A-Ma, a goddess worshiped by the Macao people. People built the temple in order to pay their homage to A-ma, and to pray for good luck for both their families and themselves.
The whole temple includes the main hall, the stone hall, the great mercy hall and Kun Lam hall (Goddess of Mercy, Avalokitesvara). Along the cliff leading form great mercy hall to Kun Lam hall, there are many poems and verses inscribed on stone. They bears a wide variety of Chinese script forms, including seal script, official script, regular script, running script and cursive script. From the script one can learn the development history of Chinese characters.
On the birthday of A-Ma (Mar, 23rd of Chinese lunar year), and in the spring festival, many disciples gather here to pay their homage to A-ma and to pray for good fortune for themselves and their families.
Wine Museum
The Wine Museum in Macao is a place to know the development of the brewing culture of wine. The museum occupies an area of 1,400 square meters with a collection of more than 1,115 brands of wine. Wine Museum tells the story of viniculture from ancient times, including the introduction of wine into Asia through Macao by the Portuguese. On display are traditional presses, distilling equipment, wine fraternity costumes and bottles of 700 different Portuguese wines.
There are altogether three main sections in the museum. They are: the section of the history of wine-making, the section of the collection of wine and the section of wine display. These sections systematically introduce the brewery, the history of wine and the tools and utensils used for brewery, presenting to the visitor the modern and traditional tools used to make wine.
