Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Autonomous Region is located in the middle reache of the Yellow River, between the Helanshan Range and the Eerduosi Plateau. Topographically speaking, Yinchuan is in a plain terrain, with average altitude of 1,100 - 1,200 meters above the sea level. The city covers an area of 3,499 square kilometers and is inhabited by a population of 953,800.
The history of Yinchuan can be dated back to 1,500 years ago. In 1038, as soon as the Daxia Dynasty was established, Yinchuan served as the capital of the Western Xia Dynasty with a name of "Xingchuan". Yinchuan was also known as the "phoenix city" in history.
Due to its long history and geological location, Yinchuan is rich in both cultural recourses and natural recourses. Of all the tourists attractions in Yinchuan the most famous and popular one is the Western Xia Imperial Mausoleums , which is considered as the Eastern Pyramid and is really worth seeing.
