Jinan is the provincial capital city of Shandong Province. It is situated in the mid-west of Shandong Province, near Mt. Tai to the south and Yellow River to the north. It covers an area of 8,227 square kilometers with a population of 6.67 million.

The city is the political, economic, cultural, science technology, education and tourism center of Shandong Province, with railway connections to Beijing, Tianjin in north, Shanghai, Ningbo in the south and express way to the costal cities of Shandong Peninsula and middle of China.
There are 48 minority groups in Jinan, which taking up 1.84 percent of the total population. Of the minority groups, 88.79 percent are Hui people.Other ones are Mongolian, Korean, Ugurs, Tibetans, Manchu, Hani, Miao, Chuang, Yi, etc, which takes up 98.4 percent of the total minority population in Jinan.
With a number of natural springs, it is also known as the "City of Springs". The four largest springs are Black Tiger Spring, Pearl Spring, Five Dragons Spring and Baotu Spring, which is the most famous one. Besides springs, Thousand Buddha Mountain, one of the ranges from Mt. Tai and Daming Lake are also worth visiting.
