As the capital city of Shanxi province, Taiyuan is the political, cultural and economic center of the province. With a population of 3.4138 million, covering an area of 6,988 square kilometers, Taiyuan is located in the center Shanxi plain. It is a new industrial center in China, having various industries: metallurgy, coal, engineering, chemicals, electronics and textiles.

The history of Taiyuan can be traced back to 2,500 years ago. During the period of North and South Dynasties, it used to be the spare capital of the Eastern Wei and Northern Qi Dynasties.
