Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area
Located in Aba Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture , about 450 km north of Chengdu , Jiuzhaigou Scenic Area is famous for majestic and unparalleled emerald lakes, layered waterfalls, colorful forests, snow peaks and Tibetan folk villages. "Jiuzhaigou" refers to the 9 Tibetan villages situated in the valley.
It is a home of densely growing conifers and broadleaf trees, and precious animal species such as the giant panda, golden monkey, and white-lip deer.
Waterfalls are the core of the scenery in Jiuzhaigou. They are created between lakes on different levels with water flowing down the cliffs covered with trees and oozing through the tree trunks. The trees in the primitive forest are thick with leaves that block the sunlight. As the height and temperature vary, plants are distributed distinctively, with the broadleaf forest at the foot of the mountain, and coniferous forest at the top.
In 1992, this scenic area was recognized to be the world natural heritage.
