Three Courses of Tea
Three Courses of Tea is a unique way of drinking tea, when Yunnan Bai Nationality entertains their honored guests. It was said that, the Three Courses of Tea was once a tea custom of King Nanzhao in the ancient times, and later became a popular custom of the Bai people. The characteristics of the Three Courses of Tea are first bitter, second sweet, and third aftertasted.
In the first course, there are only high-quality green tea and water served, so the taste of the tea is bitter. The meaning of the first course of tea is that one should bear hardship and work hard in order to be successful. In the second course, white sugar, walnut-meat, sesame are added, which makes the tea tastes sweet and inviting. The meaning of the second course is that no pains no gains. In the third course, fragrant milk fan and brown sugar , honey , sweet-scented osmanthus , rice flower , Chinese prickly ash are added, which makes people have a feeling of reminiscences. The meaning of the third course of tea is that if you work hard and gaine success, you will have a good aftertaste of life.
