Shaoxing is located in the southern wing of the Yangtze River Delta. It covers an area of 7,901 square kilometers and is inhabited by a population of 710,000. With its long history and many celebrities, Shaoxiang is a famous historical and cultural city that boats beautiful lakes and rivers. Shaoxing is well known as "the Town of Water", "the Town of Bridges" and also "the Town of Colligraphy".
Shaoxing was the center of politics, culture and culture in southern China from the Qin and the Han Dynasties up to the Ming and the Qing Dynasties. Many of its rivers, big and small, span 1,900 kilometers, running vertically and horizontally -- just like streets in northern China -- with various stone bridges at their crossroads.Shaoxing boasts 229 ancient bridges, which constitute a site rich in manmade landscapes. No wonder people call Shaoxing as "the home of bridges". The beautiful scenic spots in Shaoxing include the Orchid Pavilion, the East Lake, Dayu's mausoleum and so on.
